An Isle of Wight MP has been appointed to a new role.
Joe Robertson, MP for the Isle of Wight East, has been appointed as parliamentary private secretary for the shadow culture, media and sport (DCMS) team.
The appointment was made by new Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch.
In this new capacity, Mr Robertson will work closely with the shadow DCMS team to scrutinise the Labour government's policies on various issues.
These include arts funding, online safety, youth services, UK tourism, and the growth of the UK’s creative industries.
Joe Robertson MP said: "I am pleased to join the Shadow DCMS team as a Parliamentary Private Secretary and look forward to helping to hold the Labour government to account.
“The culture, media, and sports sectors are vital to our national identity and local economies which have faced unprecedented challenges in recent years.
"Events like ‘Hats Off to Sandown’ are a good example of the strength of our local culture and should be protected where possible."
He will also support the team in examining the forthcoming Football Regulator Bill.
His previous experience includes advising the BBC, working for phone-hacking claimants against the News of the World, and with Premiership Rugby.
