A severe weather warning for black ice has been issued for the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Tuesday).

The warning, from the IW Met Service, goes live at midnight tonight and runs until 9am tomorrow morning (Wednesday).

Local forecaster, Jamie Russell, says temperatures will drop overnight, leading to a risk of a few icy patches in some sheltered rural parts.

For the most part, temperatures are expected stay just above freezing, but low-lying areas out of the wind could see temperatures fall to freezing, or fractionally below.

Watch out for dangerous conditions on untreated roads and walkways, as well as invisible black ice, especially where there are puddles and run-off from fields.

Tonight, gritters will be out on the Isle of Wight for the first time this winter.
