Work is underway to fix a collapsed culvert in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight - in a bid to help prevent future flooding in the area.
The Isle of Wight Council says the repair work is necessary to prevent a repeat of the flooding of homes and businesses on Collingwood Road and Brook Path during heavy rain.
Emergency works started this morning (Monday) and are expected to take around four weeks to complete.
It means a localised closure of the footway and one-way traffic flow on Carter Avenue, with traffic flowing from Landguard Road.
Councillor Paul Fuller, Cabinet member for planning, coastal protection and flooding, said: "We understand flooding has been a significant issue for local residents and businesses in this area, which is why these works are so important.
"We've completed a detailed survey of the culvert to identify the exact areas that need work.
"This proactive approach aims to mitigate the risk of flooding and provide relief to the affected community in Shanklin."
