Children across the Isle of Wight have been recognised for their creativity.

Sight for Wight held a Design Your Own Hat and Sunglasses competition, inviting students to showcase their design skills.

The challenge was an integral part of the charity's annual Hat and Sunglasses Day, intended to motivate children to think creatively and craft unique designs.

The day also featured the Isle of Wight primary school's screening of Sight for Wight's educational video, Be Wise Protect Your Eyes.

The film, with characters Swoop, Digger, Salty, and Bounce, aims to teach children about the importance of eye care and ways to avoid preventable sight loss.

Lisa Hollyhead, Sight for Wight CEO, said: "A staggering 48 per cent of sight loss is avoidable; that means one in two people living with sight loss may have been prevented.

"I am absolutely passionate about teaching children the simple steps they can take to do this and our annual Hat and Sunglasses Day is one of the ways we do this."

The competition winners, selected by mystery judges, were awarded a personal T-shirt featuring their designs.

One of the judges said: "This competition is a fantastic opportunity for children to express their artistic talents and gain recognition for their creativity."
