A charity is organising a Christmas party for dachshunds and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the breed's rescue.

Ryde's The Star Coffee and Ale House will be hosting the 'Christmas Pawty for Dachshunds' on December 15 from 10.30am to 4pm.

The event, organised by a private individual, is expecting more than 30 dachshunds to attend.

Each of the canines will receive presents from Santa Paws, with the day also featuring photo opportunities, puppuccinos, a quiz with prizes, and a best-dressed dog competition.

The competition will accept fancy dress or Christmas jumpers.

A raffle with prizes from national pet suppliers and local businesses will also be held.

The organiser is hopeful that the event will raise more than just funds.

A spokesperson said: "Not only are we hoping to raise much-needed money for The Red Foundation, we would like to raise awareness of this amazing charity especially in the current financial climate where people are struggling to feed and insure their dachshunds and finding that they are having to turn to charities to help."

The Red Foundation is a charity that rescues dachshunds.
