Our new series is putting a spotlight on IW pubs.
Last time, we shined a light on The Gallybagger Inn in Chillerton.
This week, we're heading to Porchfield to check out The Sportsman's Rest.
The pub has been owned by mother and daughter Nicola and Tania Price since August 2023.
Nicola and Tania both live locally and had been visiting for several years before taking the pub on.
Nicola said: "It's an old traditional country pub.
"The locals are great, they support us very well.
"A lot of people come in and say how nice it is to have an old village pub hardly touched."
Tania added: "We do cakes and afternoon teas from Calbourne Classics.
"We try and keep local people involved."
The Sportsman's Rest was formerly a coach house, established in 1857.
The pub served soldiers based at the nearby Newtown Rifle Range, with men retiring to the Sportsman's Rest after the day's duties were completed.
The pub serves a lunch menu from 12pm to 2:30pm with sandwiches and ciabatta on offer, with hot meals served in the evening, and special nights for steak, curries and fish and chips.
The Sportsman's Rest also offers events, with quiz nights and music nights happening monthly.
"Sometimes we team up with Porchfield Cricket Club when they do their carol singing, and they always meet here after.
"We cater for small parties as well in the back room for special occasions."
