The IW County Press is celebrating its 140th anniversary this month.
The newspaper began in 1884 and has served the Island community by delivering trusted news ever since.
These days, most County Press readers are online and the paper reaches a bigger audience than its founders could ever have imagined!
In the last few weeks, the newsroom has moved to modern offices at the Innovation Centre, at St Cross Business Park in Newport.
Editor Lori Little said: “The whole County Press team is proud to work for such a known, respected and trusted brand, and the 140 year heritage is very much part of our standing in the local community.
“We have modernised the paper but we retain that lovely iconic masthead on the front, instantly recognisable on the news stands.
“We work hard to maintain a reputation for being fair, balanced, honest and visible local journalists and we are do this by getting out and speaking to people, asking questions, attending events, live streaming, reviewing theatre, and shining the spotlight on local charities and businesses.
“It is important that we cover all aspects of news, good and bad, without fear or favour.
“It is interesting when looking through the archive over the years, that many of the same issues rear up every so often, from school closures to floating bridge problems.
“Recently we have covered some stories that feel like firsts however – microplastics being found in the River Medina in alarming quantities for example – and you realise modern times bring new challenges.
“Through the years, what you can rely on is that the County Press’s trained journalists are on the case.
“Thanks go to all our loyal readers for picking up the paper every Friday and for reading our news online.
“Every time you do this, you are supporting trusted local journalism such as ours, which is vital for providing in-depth local news coverage.”
