An Isle of Wight woman’s evening meal with a friend ended in her drink-drive arrest after she forget to turn her headlights on.
Ivy King, of High Street in Ventnor, attended the IW Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 8, and pleaded guilty to drink driving.
Lauren McConnell, prosecuting, said a police patrol spotted a Mazda 2 travelling down Shanklin High Street with no headlights on at 10.20pm on October 22.
The 24-year-old was at the wheel of the vehicle, and police noted that her speech was “slightly slurred,” which prompted a roadside alcohol test, which returned positive, Ms McConnell told the court.
King, who has no previous convictions, was found to be double the legal drink drive limit.
Oscar Vincent, defending, read out a letter his client had written as mitigation.
Mr Vincent said King understands how irresponsible it was, adding that it was “out of character” for her.
The court heard that King had been struggling with her mental health after being a passenger in a car crash and following the death of a friend.
On the night of the incident, King had gone out for a meal but did not feel like she was over the limit, Mr Vincent said.
King feels "shame for putting herself and others at risk."
King was handed a 17-month driving disqualification and was ordered to pay a £350 fine, a £140 surcharge and £50 costs.
