Newport will host several events this weekend to commemorate Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.

Tomorrow (Remembrance Sunday), a service of remembrance will take place at Newport War Memorial in St Thomas’ Square from 10.45am to 11.45am.
The day will begin with two processions, one led by the Royal British Legion parade departing from Drill Hall Road at 10.30am and the other, led by the council’s mace bearer, departing Newport Guildhall at 10.50am.
The processions will unite in St Thomas’ Square for prayers, followed by a two-minute silence at 11am, signalled by a bugler.

A wreath-laying ceremony will follow before the Remembrance Service continues in the square.
Among the wreath layers will be High Sheriff Graham Biss, IW Council chair Cllr Karl Love and the council’s Armed Forces Champion Cllr Ian Dore.
A second parade will proceed through Newport High Street, where Lord-Lieutenant Susie Sheldon will take the salute.
Additional services in Newport include a Remembrance Service at Quay Street Methodist Church at 10.30am and a special children’s service at St John’s Church at 9.30am.
On Armistice Day (Monday, November 11), Newport will observe a two-minute silence at 11am in St Thomas’ Square.
