THE Isle of Wight RFC's centenary ball not only brought current players and veterans together to raise a glass in celebration of the landmark, more than £3,000 was raised for charity.

The 100-year anniversary ball was held at the Lakeside Hotel, Wootton, on Sunday (November 3).

Club president, Dave Metcalfe, welcomed guests and introduced the evening's events, which included the honouring of two volunteers, Ollie Boulter and Kieran Leahy, with honorary life memberships.

Guest speaker was Rob Henderson, formerly of London Irish, Wasps, Munster and Ireland.

He also officiated at the club's charity auction, raising in excess of £3,000, in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association Isle of Wight.

A club spokesperson said: "We would like to thank all those who supported this endeavour by donating prizes and by bidding in the auction."
