A tea party has celebrated 175 years since author Charles Dickens last visited the Isle of Wight.
The event, held on Tuesday, was organised by Island radio presenter Phil Norris, at Richmond House Artisan Bakery and Cafe in St James Street, Newport.
Special guest, Ian Dickens, the great-great grandson of Charles Dickens, was present and was presented with a silver compact mirror featuring an image of the author.
It was also Ian’s birthday the following day.
To mark the occasion of the 175th anniversary, a cake was donated by Richmonds, and a large portion of it was given to local charities.
The event was one of several organised throughout the year to bring awareness to Islanders of the connections between Charles Dickens and the Isle of Wight.
Ian gave a talk about his family, reminiscing about relatives, and talking about the various events he has been part of throughout this year. He also answered questions from those present.
He talked about the 35 Island primary schools he has visited this year and how he was able to engage with the children, encouraging them to appreciate literature by introducing his great-great grandfather and his books.
He said he moved to the Island in 2018 and there are many Island connections which have come to light since then.
