Sam Turner Sandown:

Halifax, Yorkshire, recently completed a bus station to end all bus stations, but notice anything about its design?

Why it's what the Island 'lost' at Ryde, when it changed the design we had before to the monstrosity that we have now; nothing but a sprawling 200 yard long, 50 yard wide so-called 'interchange', where one has to now run for buses to get connections.

The authority and people of Halifax label their new bus station as of 'innovative design set for the future'.

It has 19 reversal bays and all very close to each other - just a side-step for passengers to connect for different routes.

Remember our reversal bus bays? A short side step, say to get from the No.2 or No.3 to the No.9.

Now it's a walk across a road to get the No.9 from the No.2 and No.3. Across a road!

Or, a charge towards the Hovertravel terminal for other routes.

There is no rhyme or reason to what Ryde has now, where with the previous reversal bay design there was no charging or rushing around for connections and, the old Ryde Bus Station had seats - where are the seats in the new bus shelters? There aren't any.

We don't want a bus interchange in Ryde, we want a bus station.

We had an 'innovative design set for the future' in Ryde, why did we chuck it?
