A bus driver has been left shaken after being 'hit by a glass fragment' following a crash on the Isle of Wight this evening (Monday, November 4).

As previously reported by the County Press, Hampshire and IW Constabulary were alerted to reports of a collision on East Street in Newport at around 7pm.

The incident, which happened at the mini-roundabout opposite Cineworld, involved a car and the Southern Vectis route five double-decker bus.

Richard Tyldsley, Southern Vectis general manager, confirmed that no bus passengers were injured.

The driver of the car was also unharmed.

Mr Tyldsley added: "Our driver was hit by a glass fragment and suffered a minor cut. He is also understandably shaken and is being supported by our management team.

“There was serious damage to both vehicles, and police attended the scene."

Southern Vectis said it is helping police investigate the full circumstances behind the incident.

Hampshire and IW Constabulary have been contacted for a statement.
