Tributes are being paid to the "talented and inspiring" team manager of the Isle of Wight Warriors speedway team, following his shock death.

Steve Piper died in his sleep over the weekend.

Under his stewardship, the Warriors have won a number of trophies over the last few years.

Paying tribute to his "bubbly and humorous way in life", the team said he will not only be missed on the Island but at Poole where he was a regular, following the Pirates for many years.

Promoters Barry Bishop and Martin Widman said: "We are all so shocked and saddened by this, Steve, was a person who never gave up despite many challenges who was an inspiration to many of us and a great leader.
