EMERGENCY service teams are dealing with a serious crash on a main Isle of Wight route this evening (Sunday).

Police, paramedics and firefighters are among those that have been called to scene on Long Lane, on the outskirts of Newport.

The incident is ongoing and the County Press understands the road has been closed.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed emergency teams are responding to a two-car crash.

The road is expected to remain closed for some time. 

A single fire crew is assisting the ambulance service at the scene.

Southern Vectis says its Route 8 bus is unable to serve stops between Buckbury Lane and Downend Cottage.

The nearest stop is the Hare & Hounds or Long Lane.
