Isle of Wight motorists travelling to and from Sandown can rejoice in the knowledge Avenue Road is fully open once again.

UPDATE: Network Rail is warning of a lane closure in the near future.

Back in August, it was revealed the busy junction, one of the main routes out of the town, was to close for Network Rail works.

Between September 2 and October 31, the road was closed in both directions, from its junction with Tamar Close to its junction with Perowne Way, for what Network Rail described as essential engineering work.

During that time, the old span of the bridge over Avenue Road was removed and renewed, and the electric rail which powers the trains around Sandown Station was altered.

Network Rail says it will help deliver a more efficient railway on the Island in the future.

Today (Friday), the County Press can confirm the route is open once again, which will doubtless be music to the ears of motorists who frequent it.
