A charity that helps families in poverty to enjoy holidays has received the largest grant from WightAID's latest funding round.

On September 29, the Getaway Foundation was awarded £5,760 to support 18 respite breaks in 2025.

Many of the families involved have never had a holiday, and all are supported by social services and school welfare teams.

The Getaway grant was the biggest in the latest round of funding, with a total of £8,854 distributed among eight charities and organisations.

The remaining grants, all under £500, were allocated to the Dementia Afternoon Tea Club, Bodster CIC, Memorial Hall Arts and Leisure Company, Corf Scout Camp, Brighstone Christmas Tree Festival, Sandown Family Events, and Isorropia Foundation CIC.

The Dementia Afternoon Tea Club received £500 for their monthly afternoon tea gatherings.

Bodster CIC was granted £300 for new equipment to enhance their children's visits to the equine learning centre.

The Memorial Hall Arts and Leisure Company in Freshwater was awarded £500 for a new laptop.

Corf Scout Camp received £455 for a new full-body climbing harness.

Peter Tebbutt, CEO of The Getaway Foundation, said: "The support WightAid has given us over the last few years is amazing. Our aim is to help families impacted by poverty create happy family memories that supports them in their day to day lives.

"WightAid has been a key partner in supporting this and we have now supported over 75 families from the IW and look forward to creating many more happy family memories next year. Without the support of partners like WightAid this would not be possible."

These will be used to help members, who are adults with mental health issues, to become familiar with the new booking system.

James Daws from Gurit, a supporter of WightAID, presented the overall cheque.
