A popular Isle of Wight attraction has put out an appeal after four raccoons escaped overnight last night (Thursday October 31).

Amazon World has asked members of the public to not approach the racoons as they are not normally aggressive, but they will be scared.

The racoons were taken on by the zoo park around three weeks ago.

They had settled in well, but four raccoons managed to escape the enclosure last night.

The attraction has asked people who live locally to check sheds and bonfire piles as racoons sleep during the day and become active at dusk.

One raccoon remains in the enclosure.

Rachel, Head Keeper at Amazon World said to the County Press: "All the staff are searching, and we've had a lot of people respond saying that they'll check their areas.

"We have all the equipment to catch the racoon, it's just about having as many eyes as possible."

In a post on Facebook, Amazon World said: "Four female raccoons have escaped from their enclosure overnight.
