A man has been arrested on suspicion of serious offences, including possession of a firearm and false imprisonment, after armed police officers were called to East Cowes this morning (Wednesday).
Police were called to an address in the town over concerns for the welfare of its occupants.
Acting on information provided to police, firearms officers were among those to respond.
Police enquiries took place on Kent Avenue, where a man was detained at an address on the street.
“The 24-year-old was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and drug driving,” said a spokesperson for the force.
“He remains in police custody at this time, and enquiries are in the early stages of establishing the exact circumstances of what has occurred during this incident.”
