A teenage angler has won an award for his respectfulness while fishing on Ryde Pier.
Jay Smith, 15, from Ryde, won the Wightlink Most Responsible Angler Award at the Fishing Frenzy series.
The event, which took place this summer, was organised by Vectis Boating and Fishing Club and welcomed 31 junior anglers.
Despite a decrease in fish numbers compared to previous years, the club was pleased with the turnout of young anglers.
The award is part of the Wightlink in the Community programme, which annually recognises a young angler for their conduct.
Jay, of Ryde Academy, said: "It is great to win this award. I take the environment I fish in, and the care of the fish themselves, very seriously."
Colin Webb of Vectis BFC said: "Jay has such a calm personality and takes everything in his stride. He’s fished the frenzy for at least five years and, although he has always been competitive, he has never won before."
The event was co-sponsored by Wightlink and Ryde Bait and Tackle Shop.
This year’s trophy was sourced from Sculptglass of Arreton.
