A MAJOR route serving Ventnor is set to reopen later today (Tuesday) following emergency gas works in Wroxall.
UPDATE: The road has now opened
On Monday, October 21, Southern Gas Networks (SGN) began repairs on a gas leak outside the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary on St John's Road.
Temporary traffic lights were put in place throughout the week to maintain traffic flow, but the road was completely closed yesterday (Monday), from the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary to Whiteley Bank.
It meant no through vehicle access in either direction past the point of the closure, affecting the B3327, the main route between Ventnor and Wroxall, serving Sandown, Shanklin and Godshill.
Anyone hoping to go to Ventnor had to go via Whitwell, with Leeson Road currently closed for safety studies.
Island Roads said today: "A positive update re St John's Road, Wroxall. SGN has made good progress and hopes to have the road reinstated and open by 4pm today. Thanks for your understanding and co-operation during this SGN work."
Access to Ventnor via Wroxall will be restored.
