THE NHS is urging parents on the Isle of Wight to get their children, aged two and three, booked in for flu vaccines.

Since September, 11,000 children of this age group in the Isle of Wight and Hampshire have already had the nasal spray vaccine — but this means two-thirds are yet to be vaccinated.

The NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight's 'Protect Your Little Monsters' campaign coincides with half-term and Halloween, aiming to boost these numbers.

(Image: NHS) Dr Matt Nisbet, a GP and vaccination lead for the region, said: "Having the vaccination protects your child against flu and serious complications, such as bronchitis and pneumonia, which can develop from it.

"It can also help reduce the spread of flu, offering protection to any vulnerable friends and family members you may be in contact with."

The vaccine is delivered as a painless nasal spray, involving two quick squirts up the nose.

Parents are encouraged to know where to seek medical support if needed, with the Healthier Together app, and NHS 111 online, offering guidance.

Another GP, Dr Zaid Hirmiz, said: "The Healthier Together app is a great place to start, as it provides information and advice regarding your child’s health at your fingertips."

Parents who have not received an invite for vaccination, should contact their GP.
