ISLE of Wight East MP Joe Robertson has been elected to the House of Commons Health and Social Care Select Committee.
Taking one of only two available spots for Conservative MPs, Mr Robertson will work alongside his committee colleagues to scrutinise the Labour government.
The Island MP, who has experience working for a healthcare charity, aims to use his knowledge to advocate for necessary changes in the healthcare system.
He said: "I am honoured my fellow MPs have elected me to serve on the committee.
"I will use this platform to champion some of the issues that matter most to people on the Isle of Wight."
Mr Robertson has made it clear that his priorities include increased support for family carers, improved mental health services and reforms in social care, GP practices, dentistry and hospital services.
He added: "The challenges in social care go beyond funding. We urgently need meaningful reform that ensures better allocation of existing resources."
Ian Bennett, director of the Isle of Wight Care Partnership, said: "I am already working with Joe to help reform and improve social care, and his new position on the select committee will help local voices get heard."
Victoria Atkins MP, shadow secretary of state for health and social care, said Mr Robertson's previous experience working for a national health charity will be valuable.
The first meeting of the committee will take place on Wednesday, October 30.
