AN ISLE of Wight carpentry business owner is accused of defrauding customers for £160,000.
Scott Carpenter, of Quarry Road, Ryde, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, October 22.
The 41-year-old is charged with two counts of fraud, between May 1, 2021, and November 30, 2022.
He is accused of defrauding customers, dishonestly obtaining payment for materials which were not acquired, provided, or for works which were not undertaken, and dishonestly inducing customers to wait for payment.
The alleged fraud totals £160,000 and the charges concern Carpenter’s carpentry business, Bespoke Carpentry and Building Services IOW, also known as Bespoke Carpentry.

The court heard the case comprises six complainants, spanning a six-month period, with one of the complainants allegedly left £80,000 out of pocket.
Mr Carpenter did not enter a plea and saw his case adjourned to November 19.
He was granted unconditional bail.
