It’s showtime for The Island Savoyards, with their production of Cole Porter’s popular comedy
musical Anything Goes setting sail this week at Shanklin Theatre.

It follows the antics of passengers aboard the ocean liner SS American.

Young stockbroker Billy Crocker is chasing after Hope Harcourt, a debutante he met at a party, but she’s engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh and they’re setting sail for London, as is Reno Sweeney, an Evangelist turned nightclub singer and very fond of Billy.

Thanks to gangster Moonface Martin and his accomplice Erma, Billy is able to sneak aboard to pursue Hope, but nothing goes quite to plan!

With sequinned sermons, mistaken identities, tap-dancing sailors, and even an escaped dog, one thing is for certain in this laugh-a-minute tale… Anything Goes!

With director Sarah Scotcher at the helm, Andrew Woodford as musical director and Jo Adams as choreographer, this is set to be an all-singing, all-dancing production full of laughter.

The Island Savoyards are renowned for their large-scale musicals, with live orchestras, professional sets and costumes, and excellent casts packed with local talent, and Anything Goes is no exception.

Sarah said: “It has been a pleasure to steer the good ship SS American and its cast and crew
into show week, and we can’t wait to get the show in front of an audience.

"It’s a wonderful mix of iconic numbers like De-Lovely, I Get A Kick Out of You, Friendship and Anything Goes, combined with a very funny script, brought to life by our fabulous cast and crew, who have worked extremely hard to make this show one that will leave our audiences smiling and tapping their toes long after they’ve left the theatre.”

Anything Goes opens at Shanklin Theatre this week, with performances at 7.30pm on Thursday and Friday, and 2.30pm performances on Saturday and Sunday.
