Runners are being challenged to race against a steam train at a popular Isle of Wight attraction.

The Race The Train event features a five-kilometre course between Wootton and Havenstreet, where participants aim to outpace the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s team.

The event, open to seasoned runners, parkrun enthusiasts, and active families, begins at Havenstreet station.

After registering, competitors will board the train to Wootton station, where the race starts.

The race begins on the train whistle, with the route taking runners through Wootton and then along a woodland trail back to Havenstreet station.

The challenge is to return before the train, which will travel to the end of the line at Smallbrook Junction and back.

The second race, open to all ages and abilities, will have registration from 10.15am, with the train whistle at 11.40am.

All finishers will receive a medal.

Entry fees are £15 for adults and £10 for under 18s, which include the train journey and a medal.

Non-running supporters can join the train for £10 for adults and £5 for under 18s.
