Conservative Party leadership hopeful Kemi Badenoch visited the Isle of Wight yesterday.

She went to Shanklin Conservative Club and met with Isle of Wight East MP Joe Robertson, who is in the process of setting up his office at the popular venue.

Afterwards, she visited Wight Shipyard.

Former Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely said: "Delighted that Kemi Badenoch visited the Island. She put in a great performance at Shanklin Conservative Club.

"Near 150 members came to listen to her. Thank to you all the members who came to hear her. This is our campaign of renewal too. "She is a conviction politician. I have known her from the first day we entered Parliament together in 2017.

"She's a friend and she'll be the great leader that we need to rebuild from first principles."

He said Labour are "doing dreadfully" and Kemi is the best person to rebuild the Conservatives.

He continued: "Kemi knows the Island's issues. We discussed ferries, planning and regeneration, and took her to see Wight Shipyard.

"We need to get Kemi over the line and then start to rebuild. Our party needs it, the Island needs it and above all, our nation needs it."
