A newly-formed Isle of Wight environmental group held a day of action.

Greenpeace Isle of Wight hosted the event on Saturday, October 12, at Newport's Unitarian Meeting Hall, as part of the Common Grounds national day of action.

West Wight Labour MP Richard Quigley and the Green Party's Vix Lowthion attended.

The event showcased the work of several local groups, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust's Wilder Communities and Solent Seascape projects, Plastic Free Bembridge, and Blue Seas Protection.

The event marked 100 days since the General Election.

Elected representatives were invited to learn about ongoing environmental projects and discuss future steps.

These include reducing pesticide use and tackling plastic pollution.

Attendees had the chance to meet with the individual groups after the speeches.

They were reportedly pleased with the event and called for more gatherings to continue highlighting local environmental efforts.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Attendees were very positive about the event and asked for it to be repeated to continue showcasing the work done, build connections with each other and with our representatives to develop the great environmental work being done on our island."

Further events are expected to follow.
