An Isle of Wight drug driver says he intends to sell his Lexus to pay for his fine after being caught over the limit in Newport.

Liam Trott, of The Shute in Newchurch, attended the IW Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 15, and pleaded guilty to drug driving.

The 31-year-old attended the court via videolink.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, said two patrolling officers saw Trott pulling out of Morrisons petrol station onto Medina Avenue at 7.40pm on April 1.

Ms Millet told the court that Trott was pulled over by police, but the reason behind it is unknown.

Trott told the officers he had taken cannabis the night before, and, after a positive roadside DrugWipe test, he was arrested, the court heard.

Nick Muir, defending, told magistrates Trott did not realise the cannabis would still be in his system the next day and would like to apologise.

The court heard that Trott intends to "sell his Lexus" and pay any fine with the money from the sale.

Magistrates handed Trott a 12-month driving disqualification and ordered him to pay a £120 fine, £85 in costs and a £48 surcharge.
