Schools, businesses and the MP for Isle of Wight West were among those who celebrated Go Yellow Day 2024 in aid of Mountbatten last Friday (October 11).

At Mountbatten’s John Cheverton Centre in Newport, the team set themselves the challenge of walking the Wight as many times as they could across the week leading up to the big day.

Among those who took part were patients, staff, visitors and IW West MP Richard Quigley.

Mountbatten has revealed that, together, the Island walked the distance twice over – a total of 52 miles!

A daytime disco called Sunday Skool, lots of dressing up and a coffee morning were also among the fundraising events.

The John Cheverton Centre cafe served cakes, while staff embraced the yellow theme of the day with lots of dressing up and much eating of yellow food!

The shop teams, of which the Island has 11, were also celebrated as part of Hospice Care Week, which this year focussed on the importance of retail in helping charities like Mountbatten IW.

They were not the only ones, as schools across the Island joined the fun.

At Mountbatten, the evening was rounded off with a Go Yellow-themed quiz night.

A trophy was awarded to winners Vickie Morgan, John Sharman, Dale Millward and Duncan Fleming, who spent the duration of the quiz dressed as chickens.

Mountbatten IW is one-third funded by the NHS, but this money has not changed in line with inflation, and even this is under threat.

Go Yellow Day helped raise cash and awareness of the charity’s 24/7 services in Islanders’ homes and its 16-bed hospice.
