An appeal for witnesses has been launched after a car crashed into another vehicle with a baby onboard, before leaving the scene.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was called to The Downs Road, at its junction with Lime Kiln Shute on Sunday, October 13.

Police were alerted at around 4.25pm.

It was reported a black Audi had collided with a blue Suzuki SX4, which was said to be carrying a 16 month old baby.

Police said the Audi left the scene without stopping to exchange details.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information, in particular the driver of the Audi, should contact 101".
