Hazel Stanton, of Alfred Street, East Cowes appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 11.

She pleaded guilty to causing serious injury while driving a vehicle without due care and attention, following a collision on June 28.

Court heard how Stanton, 61, was travelling in her Toyota Aygo on Blackwater Road at around 7.20am when the crash occurred.

Lauren McConnell, prosecuting, said Stanton stopped her vehicle to turn right down Blackwater Hollow.

Before turning, she checked both ways but failed to see a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

As she turned, there was a collision, Mrs McConnell said.

CCTV footage captured from a Southern Vectis bus was played in court, showing the moment the vehicle knocked the motorcyclist off his bike.

While on the ground in 'immense pain', the motorcyclist, who was 54 at the time, said he remembers a bang and Stanton shouting 'I'm so sorry', a statement read to the court said.

X-rays to his right leg later revealed he had a fractured tibia and fibula.

Court heard how he has flashbacks of the crash and it has had a large effect on him and his family.

"The surgeon told me I would have possible arthritis within five years and a knee replacement in ten years", his statement read.

Defending, Barry Keel, said Stanton pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and has no previous convictions.

She realises she made a "catastrophic" error of misjudgement and is very sorry for what happened, he said.

Stanton, a carer, was not in a rush and it was a "momentary lapse of concentration", court heard.

Magistrates agreed to adjourn the case to December 20 for a pre-sentence report.

Stanton was given an interim driving disqualification and granted unconditional bail.
