HOUSEHOLDERS — most of them elderly — living in a normally peaceful residential street on the Isle of Wight, were given a rude awakening when a car crashed into a garden.
Two boys, aged just 13 and 15, were arrested after the white car being driven, smashed through a wooden fence of a property in Princes Road, Freshwater, at around 6am today (Monday, October 14).

The vehicle came to a standstill, just inches from a house — its front end a matter of feet away from the bedroom of where the 80-year-old resident was sleeping.
The woman, who did not wish to be identified, said: "I was asleep at the time of the crash. I heard a big bang and it woke me up.
"I was too frightened to go outside."

Police say the car was on its side when they arrived, but was on all four wheels when the pensioner went outside to look at her wrecked fence.
Another woman, who lived at flats in nearby Arnhem Road, said: "I heard a loud, scraping sound, like metal and looked out the window to see what it was.
"Although it was dark, there was a lot of police activity and figures moving about. I could see a white car in the garden."
Living almost opposite the accident scene, in Colwell Lane, pensioner Margaret McDonnell, said: "I was asleep when it happened, but I was suddenly woken up by a loud crash and a horrible scraping noise.
"I was worried it was my car at first, as I only bought it a couple of weeks ago.
"I had a shock when I saw what the car did to the fence."
The suspects — a 15-year-old from Cowes, and a 13-year-old from Shanklin — were arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and are in custody at Newport Police Station currently.
The younger suspect was also arrested on suspicion of ABH and theft.
Investigations continue.
