A school trip to Vietnam has been shortlisted for a national award.
The ten-day excursion, organised by a Carisbrooke College teacher of Mandarin, has been named one of four finalists in the "My Best School Trip" category at the annual School Travel Awards.
The trip, led by Joe Briscoe, took 30 students from Carisbrooke College, Medina College, and The Island VI Form across Vietnam, from north to south, and included visits to key historical sites, a Mekong River journey, and a night with a local family in the rainforest.
The experience was said to have significantly enriched the students' understanding of history and fostered cultural awareness.
The winner, to be announced at the ceremony in London on November 29, will not only receive a trophy and acclaim but also £2,000 for a future educational visit.
Mr Briscoe said: "Interacting with the people of Vietnam and talking to them about their experiences during the war was a real eye opener and, as students walked around the War Remnants Museum in Saigon, you could see the shocking reality of the war hit home to them."
