ISLE OF Wight residents are being asked how they think the fire service should evolve over the next five years.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) has devised a draft safety plan, highlighting future objectives and proposals.

The plan outlines the risks and challenges they face — and the preventive and responsive measures they currently have in place.

They now want residents' opinions on whether these objectives and proposals align with the communities' needs, for the next five years.

Deputy chief fire officer, Shantha Dickinson, said: "We are always looking for ways to improve as an organisation, serving the public.

"The role of a modern-day firefighter continues to evolve, and we're looking for new and innovative ways to protect people across Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

"We need the help of our communities to tell us if they agree with our objectives, the proposals we have to achieve them and if they feel we have missed anything from our plan."

To form the safety plan for 2025-30, HIWFRS assessed community risks, frequency of call-outs and budget constraints.

They also considered community concerns, making the plan "a reflection of both observed risks and public worries".
