A PROJECT to improve visitor facilities at a popular Isle of Wight seaside beauty spot has been fully completed by the National Trust after months of work.

The work done at Compton Bay — part of a broader investment in the area — including the completion of a toilet block, which the County Press reported on in August, was concluded recently with a major upgrading of the car park.

With this project, the National Trust says its aim is to "enhance the visitors’ experience", while embodying the charity’s commitment to welcoming everyone and prioritising environmental sustainability.

The Compton Bay car park layout has been restructured, to improve accessibility and safety, with the previous crumbling tarmac area replaced with a new green space.

This area now offers visitors a safe place to enjoy cliff-top views — and access to food and beverage areas, without the worry of moving traffic.

The brand-new toilet block already introduced, has replaced the much older, outdated facilities.

The new block includes three unisex cubicles, with baby change facilities, together with a larger accessible WC and a 'Changing Places' standard cubicle, to accommodate visitors with complex needs.

As part of the 'refill revolution', there is also a water refill station at the block, along with a defibrillator.

The modular toilet block, designed with sustainability in mind, can be relocated if necessary, due to cliff erosion.

Will Myles, managing director of Visit Isle of Wight, said: "The National Trust should be congratulated on its new car park and facilities at Compton Bay.

"They look fantastic and will make a very welcome addition for visitors to the beach and surrounding area.

"The National Trust has provided an aesthetically pleasing, environmentally sustainable space. This will mean everyone will be able to enjoy this incredibly popular location."

The improvements were undertaken with minimal disruption to visitors, ensuring the car park remained open throughout the project.
