An Isle of Wight driver has been banned from the roads for more than three years after he was caught drink and drug driving just eight days apart.

Milo Gayle, of Wootton High Street, attended the IW Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 1, and pleaded guilty to drug driving.

Lauren McConnell, prosecuting, said the 28-year-old was spotted by police driving his red Mazda 3 with a low rear tyre on Fairlee Road at 9.10pm on June 11.

Officers stopped Gayle on St James’ Street and requested he provide a roadside DrugWipe reading, which came back positive, Ms McConnell told the court.

Further blood tests at Newport Police Station revealed Gayle had 55mg/l of BZE, a derivative of cocaine, in his blood.

Gayle was banned from driving for 36 months on July 9 after being caught drink driving on June 19 – just eight days after being caught drug driving.

Jim Osborne, representing Gayle, said his client regrets having taken cocaine, has no excuse and accepts full responsibility.

Magistrates banned Gayle from driving for 40 months and ordered him to pay a £230 fine, £92 surcharge and £85 in costs.
