An Island couple swam from Finland to Sweden to raise money for a water-accessible wheelchair.

Rob and Katie Jubb participated in the Swim the Arctic Circle race, swimming 3,000 metres down the Torne River.

Swimmers cross the border between Finland and Sweden in a midnight start.

Those able to complete the race in under 55 minutes technically crossed the finish line before the day the competition began due to time zones.

Due to safety reasons, the event has to be completed in pairs.

The couple completed the race together, posting times of 45 minutes and 23 seconds and 45 minutes and 24 seconds.

The sponsored swim was to raise money to buy a Hippocampe wheelchair for the Island.

The all-terrain beach wheelchair gives people with disabilities the opportunity to enter the water.

The Hippocampe was recently used on the Island at an adaptive session.

Recently, Islander Pam used the wheelchair to go in the water with Swim the Wight.

Pam lives with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

She said: "Living with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is challenging but people like you give me a reason to keep going.

"Your efforts will help so many."
