An Island community radio station has been nominated for six national awards.

Vectis Radio has been shortlisted at the 2024 Community Radio Awards, including a Station of the Year nomination.

The radio station has been nominated for the award for a consecutive fourth year.

The station is also up for Community Impact Project of The Year for two separate projects.

The Vectis Radio 4PS radio training school's tenth anniversary and The Inclusivity Project are both shortlisted in the category.

Volunteer team member Ron Leleux has been nominated for Sage Person of the Year.

He said: "I love helping other people learn how to present their own shows and encourage them.

"To be honest, I just popped into Vectis Radio a few years ago on an open day, and I've never looked back!"

Further nominations have come in the Live Event or Outside Broadcast of the Year category, with Vectis Radio's live coverage of Isle of Wight Day 2023, and the station's history of the general election on the Island shortlisted in the 2024 General Election category.

The awards ceremony will take place on November 16 in Cardiff.

The radio station is looking for volunteers to join the team in presenting, as well as behind-the-scenes roles.

On the award nominations, Station Manager Ian Mac said: "Building confidence and communication skills in young people using the using the main ingredients of radio.

Massive thanks to the Isle of Wight Council, The Island Foundation, The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Fund, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Freemasons, and Southwest Railway for supporting us with funds so that we can make a huge difference to young people in our community.

"Being nominated in the Station of the Year category for the fourth year running is something that we are very proud of.”
