Isle of Wight seafront toilets, which cost more than £20,000, have been forced to close after they were found to have been vandalised last night (Thursday, October 3).
The toilets on the revetment in Lake have been shut after electrical and physical damage was discovered.
They only reopened at the start of July after Lake Parish Council invested thousands in the facility, including £13,000 on a purpose built pump.
Contractors have been called to survey the damage.
Councillor for Lake South, Cllr Paul Brading, said: "Having finally got them open and having this damage now, it's just mindless.
"To have to close now is just heart breaking.
"We spent so much time and effort to get them open, and it makes us question whether we want to keep them open all winter."
The Isle of Wight County Press have contacted Hampshire and IW Constabulary for a statement.
The toilets reopened in July 2024 after an enforced closure for 15 months due to cliff falls, repair work to the promenade and anti-social behaviour.
There is no CCTV covering the area.
Cllr Brading said: "The problem with CCTV on the outside is that it doesn't show what happens on the inside, for obvious reasons.
"We will be considering CCTV for all three public toilets in Lake.
"Mindless vandalism costs the Parish Council money."
