AN ISLE of Wight couple celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary at the very same venue they partied at on the eve of their wedding day 60 years ago.

Anthony Edward Austin, born in Albrighton, West Midlands, and Cynthia Margaret Randall, of Bonchurch, tied the knot on October 3, 1964.

Anthony was stationed at the radar station on St Boniface Down in the early ‘60s and the happy couple first met at a social event in Ventnor.

They are well known in the town, having run a hairdressers together for many years, both on Ventnor High Street and Albert Street.

The pair worked together, with Anthony, 91, cutting men’s hair at the front while Cynthia, 82, worked in a room at the back.

They went on to have two sons in Aaron and Edward and they now have a grandson in Dylan.

The pair still live on Leeson Road and have done for the last 38 years.

Their primary hobby is gardening, which they both love, and to celebrate the big occasion they went out for a meal with the family ahead of their anniversary, dining at Bonchurch Inn – the same venue they partied at the night before their wedding day back in 1964.
