An Isle of Wight cyclist has completed a 1,000-mile journey in memory of his late mother.

Andy Allen finished the nine-day trip on September 15, raising money for Cancer Research UK.

Starting on September 7, he averaged more than 110 miles a day, beginning at Land’s End and finishing at John O’Groats.

The ride was a tribute to his mother, Julia Allen, who died after a long battle with cancer.

Julia Allen, from Seaview, was a well-loved member of the community. Andy’s efforts have highlighted the need for cancer research and support. People can still donate to Cancer Research UK through Andy's JustGiving page.

The money raised will go to the charity, which funds research into the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The charity's work has been at the heart of progress that has seen survival rates double in the last 40 years.

In the UK, 38 per cent of cancer cases are preventable, according to the charity.

Mr Allen said: "I wanted to honour my mother’s memory and contribute to a cause that is very close to my heart.

"The support I’ve received has been overwhelming, and I’m thrilled to have raised around £2,500 for Cancer Research UK."
