AN ISLE of Wight couple who met in London back in the 1960s have recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

Pat and Kathy Norris, who live in Northwood, were pleased to receive their card from the King and Queen, congratulating them on 60 happy years together.

The pair met in London through family and married a year later, tying the knot in Finsbury Park on September 26, 1964.

Pat was working for Decca Radar at the time, and relocated to the Island shortly after the wedding, when Plessey Radar was being built in Cowes.

Kathy, on the other hand, worked at Dickins and Jones Department Store in Regent Street before crossing the Solent.

The happy couple went on to raise three daughters in Alison, Jeanette and Angie, and have four grandchildren in Rebecca, Cameron, Jack and Jess.

Pat was a founder member of Isle of Wight Radio, making several trips to Parliament to request the Isle of Wight be granted its own radio station, and he was also involved with Hospital Radio for more than 40 years.

In recognition of the latter, he was invited, with Kathy, to the Queens Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in 2012.

Kathy worked at the Holmwood Hotel in Cowes for a number of years before retiring.

The pair are both fond of walking and spending time with family and friends.

To celebrate, a party was held at the Woodvale in Gurnard, with two of their daughters travelling from Australia and America with their families, and other guests travelling from New Zealand and the mainland, to be there for the special day.
