A hospital has received funding for a new TV to help educate diabetic patients.
The Friends of St Mary’s funded £875 for the TV, which is equipped with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
The device aims to help patients understand foot health and other lifestyle choices.
This comes as more people are being diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM), increasing the need for patient education.
The TV will display educational messages in the podiatry waiting room. These messages are designed to encourage behaviour change, promote healthy lifestyle choices, and good self-care practices.
Healthcare professionals hope this will reduce the costly implications of DM, such as diabetic foot ulceration.
Stephanie Stanley, clinical/professional lead for podiatry at the Southern Health Foundation NHS Trust said: "Thank you so much for the wonderful TV from the Friends of St Mary’s.
"It will be used in the podiatry waiting room to give public health messages about ways to achieve good foot health, to enhance mobility and assist with maintaining independence.
“We also share our rooms with the musculoskeletal physio and spinal triage teams, and they too will be able to enjoy the wonderful opportunity to spread their public health messages."
