Aldi stores on the Isle of Wight helped families in need by donating 1,200 meals during the summer school holidays.
The donations were made by the supermarket's two Island stores, in Lake and Cowes, which supported local charities and food banks by redistributing surplus food through the community giving platform, Neighbourly.
The donations came during a time of increased demand for services, as new research from Neighbourly revealed that 78 per cent of supported causes noticed a rise in demand but a decrease in donations.
Aldi's partnership with Neighbourly, which started in 2019, has resulted in Aldi stores nationwide donating over 40 million meals.
Shoppers can also contribute by donating food to local charities, food banks, and community groups through the donation points in all Aldi stores.
Liz Fox, national sustainability director at Aldi UK, said: "We are so proud to work with such amazing charity partners across the Isle of Wight and the work that they do can never be underestimated.
"Their services are needed more than ever during the summer holidays and we’re passionate about ensuring that fresh and healthy food is always accessible to those in need."
