A youth project has been awarded a £3,000 grant.

The money was given to West Wight Churches Youth Project by Freshwater Parish Council.

The project, which has been running for ten years, brings young people together and connects them with others of their age.

The money will be used for trips, such as the Resound Youth Event in Dorset and the Dreaming the Impossible festival, and to update equipment, such as Xbox controllers and board games.

It will also be used for refreshments.

Councillors Emma Cox and Natalie Thomas were invited to the youth club to see how it operates.

Cllr Thomas said: "As a local Freshwater mum, it is amazing that we have such a wonderful youth provision available in the West Wight.

"My daughter is really enjoying the time and space to connect with her friends out of school."

The project is a partnership between Churches Together West Wight and Isle of Wight Youth for Christ.

It is led by part-time youth worker Faye Smith and managed by a team.

The group has several volunteers from local churches.

They are passionate about seeing young people's lives changed by Jesus.
