A steampunk themed festival took place on the Isle of Wight last weekend (September 21 and 22).

The inaugural Isle of Wight Steampunk Festival was held in Ryde, with a mix of live music, cabaret and industrial gothic festivities.

Guests were encouraged to dress up in steampunk attire, with people coming from around the UK to attend the festival.

The weekend saw over 2,000 visitors adorn top hats, corsets and Victorian costumes, with Ryde transforming into something of a film set.

Russ and Philippa Broughton of Adgestone Vineyard brought a model of land-based mobile airship, which added to the atmosphere.

Events across the weekend included tea duelling, teapot contests, and shopping for steampunk accessories in the shops of Ryde, including the Royal Victoria Arcade.

Sunday (September 22) culminated in a walk to the newly reopened Appley Tower, where the festival organisers addressed the crowd from the top of the tower.

In a statement, organisers Dr Kieron and Vicky Cooney said: "We were overwhelmed by the success and popularity of the inaugural Isle of Wight Steampunk Festival held in Ryde at the weekend.

"Gratitude is owed to our generous sponsors without which this festival would not had been possible and to local enthusiasts, supporters and businesses, including The Star Coffee and Ale House, FuBar, Royal Victoria Arcade, Dorset Hotel Ryde, and Royal Esplanade Hotel who helped bring this dream to life.

"With hearts full of joy, we eagerly anticipate the return of the Isle of Wight Steampunk Festival next year, promising even more magic and wonder.”
