An Isle of Wight road was partially blocked this morning prompting an emergency callout to a low-hanging electricity cable (Sunday, September 22).

Hampshire and IW Constabulary were alerted to reports of a low-hanging cable on Gunville Road in Newport shortly before 10.30am.

A police officer arrived at the scene, followed shortly after by engineers from Southern and Scottish Electricity Network (SSEN)

Due to the low cable, Southern Vectis route 7, between Newport and Alum Bay, cannot serve Gunville Road.

The route 7 via Newbridge and the route 38 are not affected.

"SSE attended to conduct repair works and all agencies have now left the scene."

Southern Vectis 7 has returned its usual route.
