A BUSY section of an Isle of Wight road into Newport town centre is set to reopen well ahead of schedule.
Improvement works being made to South Street, between its junctions with Prospect Road and Church Litten, are almost completed, with the highway expected to reopen by 6pm today (Friday, September 20).
The works, which got underway on Monday, September 16, were expected to run on for eight days.

But on Twitter, Island Roads say the road is set to re-open this evening.
"We're pleased to say works have progressed well at South Street, Newport, and the road will be re-opened by 6pm tonight," say Island Roads.
"Thank you all for your co-operation which has helped us complete these essential work ahead of schedule."
The improvement works involved excavating the highway, to address underlying issues that have caused the surface to deteriorate.
