SIGHT for Wight's open day is set to return by popular demand.
On Tuesday (September 24), the charity will join forces with Wight Sense, the Island’s sensory support service, to host an event at the Riverside Centre, Newport.
The event will cater for Islanders with varying degrees of sight and hearing loss — offering support, advice and equipment trials.
A year ago, a similar event attracted many Islanders, who interacted with 16 other organisations for one-to-one assistance.
This year's event will have a more local focus, with fewer equipment suppliers, but more Island charities and organisations.
Lisa Hollyhead, CEO of Sight for Wight, said: "We are offering a one-stop shop for on-the-spot advice, equipment demonstrations and signposting for support, for any Islanders living with sight or hearing conditions."
The event aims to provide genuine support, without the hard sell of expensive items.
Lisa, who was born blind and rapidly losing her hearing, understands the importance of receiving the right help at the right time.
"I understand what having congenital life-long sensory loss is like, and what acquired second sense also brings," she explains.
The charity offers a variety of services, including weekly groups, a befriending service, IT accessibility advice, an audio library and a weekly talking news service.
Wight Sense provides home visits for one-to-one assessments, equipment loans, mobility training and daily living skills.
The event is open to all, from 11am to 2.30pm, with home-made cakes available for everyone.
